These Mid-South Region activities in South Korea are more toward the southern region that are a few hours north from Geoje Island in the south.  Get your hiking gear ready to hike Jirisan especially during spring or fall to see amazing color.  There is nothing like walking through the forest to hear the rustling of the wind through the trees along with birds singing.  Keep your eyes out of deer, bears, snakes and more.

I once read: ” where humans live in complete harmony with nature”.  For me to accomplish this harmony was to hike multiple days a week.  The hardest and best part on occasion was finding the beginning of the trail.  Lots of time it is up a road behind a house with no signs.  That is what made hiking more fun, was to find the path and make it to the peak to take a picture with the monument on the peak.  Lots of times you must share the peak with locals and take pictures with them.  Make sure when you pack your lunch to inclue more food to share with others.  Thanks to a great group of Ladies that helped me make it to many peaks along with other adventures.

There are many temples in South Korea along with Festivals.  These festivals are fun to go and immerse yourself in the Korean culture.  Grab a road map and try to go during the week otherwise arrive early to find a parking place.  Pack a lunch with water.  Sometimes being a foreigner and not speaking the language it is hard to find a restaurant.  Plus some restaurants close right after lunch until dinner.

Busan Transportation Directions…Car/Bus/Subway

This was written for the many Expat wives that needed directions from Geoje Island to Busan where there was shopping.  It also explains how to use the subway system.  If you are in Seoul stop by the Transportation Authority office and they will be more than helpful to hand you an english map.  Seoul has many subway lines which can be confusing.  Plan your route ahead of time and make sure your standing on the correct side going in the right direction.  I have been known to go the wrong way, get off and finally head the right way.  All in the fun of adventure.

  1. What a thorough guide on the hiking/nature adventures of South Korea! I’ve been hearing more and more and South Korea lately, and while I admit that I’ve never been too interested to visit, all I’ve been hearing is piquing my curiosity. I’ve pinned this if I ever make it there. The festivals sound great!

    1. Thanks Anna,
South Korea has a lot to offer and the festivals are great to see. There is so much wilderness there that it is amazing to feel one with nature while hiking. Hope you make it there for a visit.
      Happy Travels 🙂

  2. I am starting to hear more and more about Korea and what a lovely Country it is, so this post has piqued my interest even more! Some great “insider” information here from someone that lived there, and that’s always a plus 😀 Thanks for compiling all this information, pinned for future reference (because I will be visiting!!) #feetdotravel

    1. Thanks Angie,
Thought I would compile all my articles in one place for those travelers that visit or live in South Korea. I enjoyed my many adventures while living there and still have more to share. Hope you get a chance to visit someday 🙂

  3. Such a wonderful informative post. Great life experience to live there and delve into all the cool things to do. But, the hiking would definitely be a highlight for me. It looks pretty incredible. Thanks for all the tips! Hope to visit one day. Pinning this one!

    1. Thanks Lisa,
My favorite was the hiking. Sure it is fun to visit the many temples but being outside and enjoying nature is wonderful. Note that there are a lot of Koreans that feel the same way. I was passed one time on a steep hiking trail by an older women who looked around 80 yrs. young but hiked better than myself. lol. That just made me want to step up my game.
      Happy Travels 🙂
