Brief History Downtown Sioux Falls

Sioux Falls was discovered by the Sioux Indians which lies close to downtown.  The falls brought pioneers to this area before the civil war of 1856.  The area around the falls grew with more and more people.   The pioneers and homesteaders staked their claims along the banks of the Big Sioux River.  Population then grew to around 10,000 people by the year 1889.  With the population still growing, downtown Sioux Falls buildings were built using the pink quartz from the local area.  By the year 2009 population was at least 150,000 people.  Now, Sioux Falls remains a focal point for visitors from all over.  Favorite places to visit are the Sioux Falls Park, the 19 mile Downtown Greenway for a bike ride, walk or jog and Downtown Sioux Falls.  Let us now see what downtown has to offer.
